Christ Church Grammar School Takes Titles Across Badminton, Chess and Surfing

Christ Church Grammar School completed an unbeaten Badminton season to claim the Brother Kelly Cup, winning all 12 fixtures. Christ Church maintained their place at the top despite pressure from the teams behind them.

Christ Church also reclaimed the PSA Chess title on home ground after Scotch College’s breakthrough win in 2025. The competition came down to key moves in the fixture between the two leading schools, with Christ Church securing the championship.

At North Scarborough, Christ Church claimed the PSA Surfing title for the third time, finishing 33 points ahead of second-placed Hale School. Host school Scotch College rounded out the top three.

Scotch College Secures Four Championships Across the Winter

Scotch College finished the winter with four titles across Cross Country, Football, Rugby and Theatre Sports.

In Cross Country, Scotch remained unbeaten throughout the season, with Christ Church Grammar School providing consistent competition across the All Schools events. Scotch completed the final fixture on top to finish as the 2026 Cross Country Champion School.

The Alcock Cup race remained open through much of the season as Aquinas College and Hale School stayed within reach. Scotch secured the Football title in Round 13 with a 53–36 win over second-placed Aquinas.

Rugby went one round further. Scotch and Hale were closely matched throughout the season, including a 19–19 draw when they met for the second time in Round 11. Scotch carried the competition lead into the final weekend and secured the Brother Redmond Cup in Round 14.

Aquinas College hosted the 2026 Theatre Sports competition, Scotch claimed the title ahead of Christ Church Grammar School, followed by Hale School and Trinity College tied, Aquinas College and Wesley College tied, and Guildford Grammar School.

Hale School Takes Two Championships in a Dramatic Finish

Hale School completed an unbeaten Hockey season and followed it with a Soccer title decided in the final minute of Round 14.

Christ Church Grammar School stayed close enough in Hockey to take the Ray House Hockey Cup race into the final round. A 2–2 draw between the two schools completed Hale’s season without a loss and secured the title.

In Soccer, Hale entered the final afternoon one competition point ahead of Aquinas College. After Aquinas defeated Trinity College, Hale still needed a result against Christ Church. With the match locked at 3–3, a final-minute goal gave Hale a 4–3 victory and the Lawe Davies Cup.

Wesley College Goes Back-to-Back in Golf

Scotch College hosted the PSA Golf competition at Mount Lawley Golf Club, where Wesley College secured back-to-back P.A. Anderson Cups. Just 12 strokes separated the top three teams, with Wesley recording the first- and third-placed pairs, while Christ Church Grammar School finished second.

Key Moments of the Season

Round 3 – True to the Blue

Guildford Grammar School welcomed their community for True to the Blue, bringing athletes, families and supporters together around a full day of PSA fixtures.

On the Soccer field, Guildford defeated Scotch College 2–0 to continue their strong start to the season.

Round 4 – Ten Years of Pink Socks Day

Trinity College marked a decade of Pink Socks Day when Aquinas College visited for Round 4. Players and supporters wore pink in support of the McGrath Foundation and its work with people and families affected by cancer.

Round 5 – Indigenous Round

PSA schools recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through Indigenous Round, with teams wearing Indigenous playing kits connected to culture and Country designed by the school’s students.

Round 7 – Three Late Goals Change the Contest

Aquinas College and Guildford Grammar School arrived at their Round 7 Soccer fixture undefeated.

The match remained in the balance until Aquinas scored three late second-half goals to win 4–1. The result strengthened Aquinas’ Soccer campaign that would remain alive until the final round.

Round 8 – First Versus Second in Badminton

Christ Church Grammar School’s unbeaten Badminton run faced a direct challenge from second-placed Scotch College.

Christ Church responded with a 7–2 victory and kept lossless campaign intact, a run that continued through to the end of the season.

Round 13 – Two Titles Secured

With two rounds remaining, Scotch College converted two season-long campaigns into championship results.

A 53–36 Football win over second-placed Aquinas College secured the Alcock Cup. At the Ray Brown 8km, Scotch also took team honours to complete an unbeaten Cross Country season and become the 2026 Cross Country Champion School.

Round 14 – Soccer Decided in the Final Minute

The Lawe Davies Cup was still undecided when the final round began, with Hale School holding a one-point advantage over Aquinas College.

Aquinas defeated Trinity College, meaning Hale needed a winning result against Christ Church Grammar School. With the Soccer match locked at 3–3 late in the contest, a final-minute Hale goal secured a 4–3 victory and the championship.

On the same afternoon, Hale’s Hockey Team held out for a 2–2 draw against an unrelenting Christ Church to claim the Ray House Cup.

Beyond the Final Results

Across the winter, students represented their schools not only through their performances, but through the way they competed. Respect for opponents and officials, courage under pressure, integrity in difficult moments and commitment to teammates were evident across wins, losses and close contests.

Those qualities sat naturally alongside the competition throughout the season, from the intensity of premiership races to the community occasions that brought schools together.

As the winter season closes, the trophies recognise the teams that finished on top. The season also leaves behind the shared experience of 14 rounds of competition across seven schools.

Seven schools, one community.
