Beyond Competition in Sport
As the winter season draws to a close, it’s easy to look back and celebrate the goals, the tries, the wins, and the rivalries that define PSA sport. But to see the PSA as just a sporting competition is to miss its deeper purpose. Since 1905, the PSA has united it’s seven member schools not only in competition, but in character, which contributes to them being recognised amongst the leading independent schools in Western Australia.
Across every field, court, and pitch this winter, something greater than results was on display. It was courage in the face of defeat, integrity in the heat of battle, and respect shown between long-time rivals. It was excellence pursued not for personal glory, but for team pride. It was compassion and service — players helping opponents to their feet, and communities rallying around their teams.
These moments reflect the shared values that make PSA sport unique: faith, excellence, respect, service, courage, integrity and compassion. They are the principles that shape good sportsmen — and develop even greater values based leaders and contributors.
In a world that often measures success by the scoreboard alone, the PSA stands apart. Its athletes are expected to be more than competitors; they are ambassadors of character, humility and leadership. That’s what makes PSA sport truly special — and why, week after week, it continues to inspire not just those who play, but all who watch.

Hale’s Triple Undefeated Champions
This winter season saw a remarkable feat by Hale’s Badminton, Rugby and Soccer 1st teams who finished the long season undefeated, claiming the Br Kelly Cup, Br Redmond Cup and Lawe-Davies Trophy, showcasing incredible effort, skill and teamwork.
Wesley makes history as Golf Champions
Wesley College Golf claimed their first P.A. Anderson Cup in 25 years, in a fantastic competition hosted by Trinity College at Royal Perth Golf Club, beating out Scotch College and Christ Church Grammar School.
Aquinas College snatch nailbiter in Hockey
Aquinas College hold off Hale School by one point to lift the Ray House Trophy, ending a season where every single point was vital.
Hale Conquer the Waves
Surfing was hotly contested, with Hale holding off Scotch College and Christ Church Grammar School by just two points, showcasing each schools’ ability in the water.
Peter Moyes Trophy Heads to Scotch for the First Time
Scotch College claimed their first Peter Moyes Trophy in Cross Country, by prevailing over their cross the train tracks rivals Christ Church Grammar School. Wesley College runners dominated the individual standings, foreshadowing some incredible record-breaking performances in the PSA Athletics Carnival.
Dramatic Football Season with Hale coming out on Top
Football delivered one of the closest finishes of the season, with only four points separating Hale, Aquinas, and Wesley. Giving us a massively intense second half of the season as each team tried to catch Hale for the Alcock Cup. Hale’s first Alcock Cup since 2019.
Scotch breaks Christ Church Dominance in Chess
Scotch College also secured the chess title, breaking Christ Church Grammar School’s 15-year reign in the competition and adding another historic moment to their season.
Key Moments of the Season
Round 4 – Indigenous Round
The season’s fourth round featured the PSA Indigenous Round, an incredible celebration of culture and connection to country through student involved designs that were worn by the Firsts teams of each school.
Round 5 – Goal Fest at the Soccer
Round five produced one of the most memorable matches of the season, as Aquinas College and Christ Church Grammar School shared the points in an extraordinary 12-goal soccer draw. The contest highlighted the attacking flair and creativity of both sides.
Round 6 – Pink Socks Day and Footy Thriller
Trinity College’s annual Pink Socks Day brought another year of purpose to round six, raising funds and awareness for the McGrath Foundation while uniting players and supporters in a common cause.
On the same weekend, Christ Church Grammar School and Guildford Grammar School delivered an intense game at the footy, with Guildford sneaking out a narrow six-point victory in one of the tightest contests of the season.
Round 12 – Black Socks and Cross Country Rivalry
Round 12 stood out for Scotch College’s inaugural Black Socks Round, a student led initiative raising awareness around mental health within the community by all Firsts’ squads sporting black socks during Round 12.
This round also saw the continuation of Christ Church Grammar School and Scotch Colleges’ stiff rivalry in the Cross Country, with only three points separating the two in the 3 x 5km relay hosted by Trinity College.
Round 13 – Brother Redmond Cup – Clash at the Top
The penultimate round of the season saw a clash between the top two 1st XV Rugby teams, Hale School and Scotch College. Hale’s 1st XV pulled off a spectacular two-point victory over their fierce title rivals to cement their premiership season.
Beyond the School Rivalry
Beyond trophies and results, the 2025 Winter Season reflected the values that define the PSA. Passionate players, dedicated coaches, and tireless staff and volunteers. Together, they ensured that every moment, whether it was a standout performance, a community initiative, or a narrow victory, they made an incredible season possible.
As we move into new challenges of the Summer 25/26 Season, the PSA celebrates another winter season that truly embodied its motto:
